Traditionally the two great preoccupations of Irish people have been religion and politics. Separately they have been their glory; in interaction sometimes their shame. The painful shaming of Irish people and Churches which stems from the disturbances in Northern Ireland called for faith - reflexion on the interaction of religious faith and the Churches with the Irish political situation.
