The decision of Pope John Paul II to insert five new mysteries, the mysteries, makes the Rosary a prayer even more centred than before on Christ as revealed in the Scripture.
The five mysteries of the Rosary added by Saint John Paul II – Baptism; Cana; Kingdom; Transfiguration; Supper – help the believer who prays them, to contemplate more fully the One whom we encounter both as risen Lord and as being ‘like his brothers and sisters in every respect’ (Hebrews 2:17). The aim of The Mysteries of Light is to enable people to read aright the texts for these mysteries and thus to be able to pray them more fruitfully.
